Lindfield is a suburb on Sydney’s Upper North Shore of located 13 kilometres northwest of the Sydney CBD. It is found n the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. East Lindfield is a separate suburb, although they share the postcode of 2070.
The Gadigal people are recognised as the traditional custodians of the land around Lindfield.
The name “Lindfield” means a clearing in the lime forest and derives from the name given by an early Australian settler and landowner, Francis List. He gave the name Lindfield to a cottage he built in the area in 1884, most likely naming it after Lindfield, Sussex, England. Once the railway line came through the area in the 1890s, the property’s name was used to identify the station and neighbourhood.
