A little about THE PONDS, NSW 2769
Hills · Sydney Region
The Ponds is a suburb of Sydney, located approximately 40 kilometres west-northwest of the Sydney CBD. The Ponds is located within the City of Blacktown in the Greater Western Sydney region. It is close to Rouse Hill, Kellyville Ridge and Parklea.
The people of the Darug nation are recognised as the traditional custodians of the land that the area of The Ponds is located.
“The Ponds” was a name intended to reflect the geography of the area and is derived from the nearby creek called “Second Ponds Creek”. The Ponds suburb was officially designated as a separate suburb in January 2007 and has been developed as a true suburban family area. To date, The Ponds has won two industry awards for residential and sustainable excellence. The Ponds is the the fastest growing and hippest family suburb in Sydney.
The greatest highlight of The Ponds area is its surrounding Parklands.
The Ponds Parklands are a bit like a parklands babushka doll – there are parks within parks within parks. And within those parks you will find nature strips, fun playgrounds and nature reserves. Overall, it serves as a green retreat for the locals of the purpose-built and meticulously planned suburb that surrounds it.
The implementation of The Ponds parklands saw over two million new trees planted (!) and features five ponds and a lake. Its sheer size (over 80 hectares) serves as a point of natural inspiration and an outdoors meeting place for the community, and as a place to simply be with nature.
Within the parklands you can explore and pedal your way through four kilometres of winding cycle paths and walkways. You can fire up a barbecue (there are seven different sites) or exercise on the outdoor stationary gym.
The sustainable Ponds development is also a place of play and inspiration for adults and kids – kids can scramble, climb and swing through a number of different playgrounds, while grown-ups can admire custom art installations.
A standout project within The Ponds Parklands is the functional art seating – a collaboration between the artist Russel Anderson and the inmates of the Parklea Correctional Centre. The arty seats were fabricated in metal workshops, in which the inmates were able to weld their own individual designs and create mosaic designs for the tops.
