    A little about CHATSWOOD, NSW 2067

    Lower North Shore · Sydney Region

    Chatswood is a vibrant suburb on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, about 10 km north of the CBD. It’s known as one of Sydney’s major commercial and retail hubs, with Westfield Chatswood and Chatswood Chase as its landmark shopping centres.

    The Gamargal (or Cammeraygal) people are the Traditional Owners of the land on which Chatswood is located, on Sydney’s North Shore. They are part of a larger collective of clans within the Darug Nation and were historically skilled hunter-fisher-gatherers who lived along the foreshores and bushland of the harbour. 

    The name Chatswood originated in the mid-1800s from Richard Harnett’s estate, named Chattie’s Wood, after his second wife, Charlotte, whose nickname was “Chattie”. She enjoyed walking and painting in the surrounding wooded area of their property. The name was officially adopted for the suburb when a post office was established in the area in 1879, following a suggestion from the Municipal Council of North Willoughby.

    Chatswood lies in the Willoughby local government area, postcode 2067. It’s well-connected by train and buses, making it a popular hub for commuters .

    The suburb has a diverse community and a thriving food scene, especially famous for authentic Chinese, Korean, and other Asian cuisines. It also hosts cultural events and concerts throughout the year .
