A Little About Glenorie

Glenorie has held onto something increasingly rare in Sydney: a strong connection to its rural Hills past.

The area was originally known as North Dural, with the first European land grants made during the 1820s.

By the late nineteenth century, the community needed a name of its own. In 1894, local residents proposed two possibilities for the post office, Hazeldene and Glenorie. Glenorie won the day, supported by the local progress association, and the name became part of the district.

Agriculture also shaped the landscape.

As orcharding expanded north through the Hills, Glenorie became part of a district known particularly for citrus and stone fruit, joining Dural and surrounding rural communities in a fruit-growing tradition that remained important for generations.

There are still traces of that older Hills character today.
