The suburb West Pennant Hills is a suburb in the Hills District of Sydney, located 20 km northwest from Sydney CBD and found in the local government areas of The Hills Shire and Hornsby Shire councils.
The traditional owners were the Dharug people, who lived around the springs and waterholes in a heavily wooded country.
It is believed that West Pennant Hills was given its name after the English botanist Thomas Pennant, a friend of Sir Joseph Banks.
Thompson’s Corner is the commercial hub of West Pennant Hills. It is home to local businesses, beautiful cafes, and many restaurants. The area offers a choice of wonderful and well-known schools, making it a popular choice for families. There is plenty to do in leafy West Pennant Hills, with the nearby Cumberland State Forest offering beautiful walking trails.
The Cumberland State Forest is the last little bit of green bushland left from the abundant forest in (West) Pennant Hills about 100 years ago. With its great birdlife, it has a feel of an avary. The Cumberland State Forest has lovely picnic areas with gas barbecues and a plant nursery with a building that gives a bit of history of the forest. There are several easy walking tracks, much used by locals.
In the middle of Cumberland State Forest is the Tree Tops Adventure Park Sydney aiming to maximise adventure and excitement in natural surroundings whilst having a minimum impact on the environment. The Treetops adventure park offers a unique combination of adventurous fun for all age groups with high ropes course up in the treetops. Participants slide down flying foxes, move from tree to tree on suspension bridges, and enjoy 115 challenges, including 20 flying foxes, the longest at 200 metres. What a magnificent way to hang out in the treetops come rain or shine!
Koala Park will delight the family, and there are plenty of parks and outdoor activities to be enjoyed. The nearest train stations are Pennant Hills and Beecroft and the nearby newly opened Cherrybrook metro station. The area is serviced well by buses.
