A little about LONGUEVILLE, NSW 2066
Lower North Shore · Sydney Region
The suburb of Longueville is approximately seven kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD, located on the northern banks of the Lane Cove River.
The original inhabitants of the area were the Cam-mer-ray-gal or Cameraygal group or clan. They were one of the seven clans of the wider Gai-mariagal people, who inhabited the northern shores and beaches of Port Jackson. The Aboriginal name for the Lane Cove River was Turrumburra.
There is some conjecture about where the name Longueville originated; however, a commonly held belief is that the suburb was named after a French nobleman, the Duc de Longueville. The main streets are said to have been named after his three daughters, Christina, Lucretia and Arabella. A related theory is that the name bears a connection to the Château de Châteaudun, which possesses both a Longueville wing and a Dunois wing, with Dunois being the name of one of the principal streets in Longueville.
The cluster of the neighbouring prestigious neighbourhoods – Longueville, Greenwich, and Riverview is set amidst foreshore parks and native bushland and sits on the shores of the beautiful Lane Cove River. The quiet and meandering streets are lined with stately homes and hidden natural wonders, making this part of Sydney irresistible.
Longueville Locals are proud of the suburb’s natural beauty, with the peninsula enclaves enjoying water views and being surrounded by tranquil bushland and expansive parks. Residents revel in the strong sense of community, and a lovable village vibrancy permeates the neighbourhood. If they so choose, locals can be immersed in more bustling, urban surrounds in nearby Lane Cove or Crows Nest within minutes.
Joggers use the many trails that connect Longueville‘s surrounding suburbs and parks. In warmer months, families splash around at the harbour swimming pool, Greenwich Baths, whilst year-round boats can be launched onto Lane Cove River.
A handful of shops service the Longueville community, whether you are looking for a caffeine fix at Riverview Deli & Café or 4 Beans Co Company and it is quick and easy to pick up supplies on the way home from work.
Although tucked away in their own private part of Sydney’s highly desirable water frontage, Greenwich, Longueville and Riverview residents can easily reach Sydney’s CBD within minutes.
Considered one of Sydney’s most expensive neighbourhoods, it’s no wonder that the roll call of Longueville residents reads like a who’s who of home-grown celebrities. Amongst them, families with executive parents at the helm lay down roots, whilst established empty nesters hold on tight to their highly-prized properties.
The Greenwich Baths are a harbour swimming pool that is a trendy family destination for cooling off in the heat. It has a sandy beach, public beach chairs, sand toys and a café – all this with uninterrupted views of the harbour.
