    A little about Oatlands, NSW 2117

    Hills · Sydney Region

    Oatlands is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 23 kilometres (14 miles) north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. Oatlands is part of Western Sydney.

    The traditional owners of the Oatlands area were the Wallumattagal people to the east the Burramattagal clan of the Darug Nation to the west, according to the City of Parramatta

    The name originally comes from Oatlands House, which was one of the earliest homes in the Parramatta district, being built in the 1830s by Percy Simpson. While it has been suggested that name reflects the first sowing of oats in Australia, this can’t be confirmed. Instead, the name appears to be taken from Oatlands Park in England, which was close to the lands of Lord Dundas, for whom the neighbouring suburb was named.
